The Roman emperor was seen as divine, and people were required to honor him through temples, sacrifices, and coins bearing his image. Caesar’s "good news" was about power, military victories, and control, while Jesus’ gospel was about love, peace, and a different kind of kingdom. Early believers had to choose between worshiping Caesar or staying faithful to Jesus, often facing persecution for declaring "Jesus is Lord."
Learners will understand why Roman emperors were worshiped and how they used their power to control people. We will compare and contrast the gospel of Caesar with the gospel of Jesus, recognizing the key differences in their messages and methods of ruling.
We will also explore the challenges faced by early Christians who refused to worship Caesar and how their faithfulness can inspire us today.
