How do I watch a study trip?

A Meta Quest with the VR Study Trips app is the full 360° experience. The same lesson also plays in a browser on a computer, phone, or tablet. In a class, the teacher guide can drive the headsets you select.

Meta Quest

Works with a Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S, or Quest Pro. A headset you buy from us has the VR Study Trips app installed before it ships. It arrives charged and already paired, and it takes a seat the first time it is powered on. To use a headset you already own:

  1. Download the VR Study Trips app and sideload it onto the headset.
  2. Put on the headset, open the app, and note the code on the pairing screen. A code lasts about 15 minutes; if it expires, the app shows a new one.
  3. On a computer or phone, log in and open Headsets.
  4. Enter the code. You can name the headset (for example, “Cart 1”) and choose a pairing mode, then tap Pair.

Each paired headset uses one membership seat. When every seat is in use, add a seat or unpair a headset before pairing another.

Pairing modes

  • User Control. The person wearing the headset moves through the lesson. A narrator walks each site, with maps and Scripture in view. Pause, look around, and come back to any lesson.
  • User Control (Video Only). The wearer picks a 360° video from the lesson and watches it on their own, without the slide-by-slide guide.
  • Teacher Control. The headset follows the teacher. See Teaching a class.

You can change a headset’s mode later on the Headsets page.

Computer

  1. Log in and open your library.
  2. Open the trip and choose Start Lesson. The teacher guide has background, preparation, the lesson slides, and downloadable resources.
  3. Choose Present.
    • This screen keeps the slides and controls on this computer.
    • Second screen sends the slides to another monitor, an HDMI display, or AirPlay.
    • Cast to TV opens the slides in a new tab. Cast that tab from the Cast icon in Chrome or Edge, on the same Wi-Fi as the Chromecast.
  4. Move through the slides with the arrows. When a slide has a 360° image or video, play it, then click and drag to look around. Turn the narrator on or off from the bar at the bottom.
  5. Use the fullscreen prompt when you want the slide to fill the display.

Guides are in English and Spanish. Switch language at the top of the guide, or print the Spanish set from the library.

Phone or tablet

  1. Open a browser and go to vrstudytrips.com/login.
  2. Open your library, open the trip, and choose Start Lesson.
  3. Choose Present, then This screen.
  4. Play a 360° image or video and drag on the picture to look around.

A class can meet this way with no headsets. Each person watching at the same time uses one seat.

Teaching a class

  1. Pair the class headsets in Teacher Control, or switch them to that mode on the Headsets page. Headsets left on User Control stay with the person wearing them.
  2. From the library, choose Start Lesson, then Present.
  3. Open Headsets in the guide and select the ones that should follow. They load each slide as you move.
  4. Play 360 on an image or video, and Play on an embedded clip, starts that part of the slide on the selected headsets. Pause, stop, and seek apply to those headsets together. Headset narration can be turned on or off.
  5. Print the teacher guide from the guide itself, or print every guide in the unit from the library.

When the headsets come off, the slides and discussion questions are already on the screen you are presenting. You can present on a second screen or cast to a TV while the headsets follow.

Students do not need accounts. Headsets are paired to your membership, and no student names or emails are collected on them.

If something does not play

  • Confirm you are logged in and the trip is in your library.
  • On a headset, confirm it is paired and holds a seat. A headset waiting for a seat shows the library from any trips you bought individually, which is often empty on a membership-only account. Manage seats on your membership page.
  • In Teacher Control, select at least one headset in the guide before you play.
  • For Cast to TV, use Chrome or Edge on the same Wi-Fi as the Chromecast, and cast the projector tab.
